"I don't sing because I am happy. I am happy because I sing."

Kirtan is the practice of collective chanting or group singing, usually in a community as a sing-along of bhajans, or devotional songs, and in a call-and-response style of mantra, or sacred sounds. Kirtan is most commonly known within the practice and tradition of Bhakti Yoga. Bhakti Yoga is the path of devotion through song or mantra in order to transcendent our everyday consciousness towards a more celebrated, elevated state of being. Hence, singing is one of the main modes of devotional expression among bhakti circles, both personal in nature and offered as a means of communing or dialoging with the divine in an ecstatic and participatory way. To me this sounds very similar to what are and used to be the Australian Native Indigenous Songlines and I am so very passionate about kirtan, because it always leaves me feeling elevated and happy. Come and sing with me!
